Not Just Another Pretty Face: An Intimate Look at America's Top Male Models
Published in Paperback by New American Library Trade (April, 1983)
Author: Karen Hardy
Average review score:

If your read GQ in the early 80's
...and remember when it had models on the cover, then this book is nice guilty pleasure. Even if you don't remember their names, you'll definitely remember their faces.

Great
This was published when male models looked like they were going to become outright celebrities in the early 80's. And then they didn't quite make it. It's a slight book, of course. Each model has filled out a PLAYBOY Playmate type questionaire. But I loved it soley because the book includes among the male models ANDY WARHOL!!!!!!! Isn't that great????? Warhol became a fashion model in his last years becaue "it was the thing to do." His manager was furious, since Warhol was being paid an hourly modeling rate to appear in ads, when he could have gotten a much bigger endorsement rate. But Andy was having fun. Anyone who remembers flipping through GQ and ESQUIRE in Andy's last years will remember seeing him in fashion ads. That Andy was included in this book shows the author/publisher had a sense of humor. Warhol himself once said a clerk in a shop looked like he recognized Warhol. And Warhol thought, "Oh, he recognizes me as an artist." Then the clerk said, "Weren't you the model in that Barney's ad?" Warhol said that "it made my day. It made my month. It made my year!"

PRIME TIME CRIME (HARDY BOYS 109) : PRIME-TIME CRIME

Author: Franklin Dixon

Yeah, right.
Frank's high school trivia team makes the championships, and just then the show's host turns up missing. How likely is that? Other than that, this is a good kids book.

Hilarious and Fun!
This is a great Hardy Boys book! In it, they're trying to find a talk show host who's been kidnapped. In the process, these friends of theirs are convinced that an exec at the TV station is responsible for the kidnapping, and keep trying to spy on him! :-) It's great! You will not regret buying this book! It even inspired three original characters of my own!

Sign of the Crooked Arrow (Hardy Boys, No. 28)
Published in Library Binding by Putnam Pub Group Library (November, 1975)
Author: Franklin W. Dixon
Average review score:

An Enjoyable Book
This review concerns the original 1949 edition, as well as the revised 1970 edition which is merely a shorter version of the original. The Hardys investigate a group of criminals who are boldly robbing pedestrians in Bayport and other towns. Also, Frank, Joe and Chet go to New Mexico to help Mr. Hardy's cousin Ruth when cowboys start mysteriously disappearing from her ranch. Are the two mysterys connected, well of course they are, but you have to read the book to find out how. The book was pretty good; it was well-written and the setting of New Mexico was used effectively without the book sounding like it was a tour guide. There were a number of interesting characters and a good amount of action. There probably would not be too many Hardy Boys fans that would be disappointed after reading this book.

The Sign of the Crooked Arrow
This book is one of the better written ones in the series as the Hardy boys find the true meaning of the crooked arrow and uses New Mexico well as the backdrop for this mystery.

Firefighting.
Arsonists start burning down warehouses. Right after the Hardys become volunteer firefighters. A good kids book, I guess.

Very Good
I liked this book. It took me two days to read this. I liked how it had unexpected turns like when the apartment building colla pises when the Hardys try find out how their friend Kevin got fired from the apartment as Super. I liked the beginning when they chase the blue car after checking the first warehouse. It was a good book so I can't spill the beans.

Breaking the Barrier
Spike Lee; an outspoken writer, actor, producer, bussinessman and noted director Spike Lee hasn't rested on his achievments rather he keeps going. When I read this book it really caught my eye this man is really out to help his race break through the barrier that has held them back since slavery. He even stipulates in his contracts for movies and commercials that blacks be hired to work behind the scenes. I truly believe that this book brought out his inner-character, which I truly believe I can get an understanding for now that I read this inspirational book. I recommend this book for anyone who believes strongly in self-character because Spike Lee's got it.

Spike has made a Difference
it's Fantastic Reading about this Brother.he is Very Deep. One OF The Greatest Film-Makers Ever.he has done so much To UpLift THe HUman Vibe.it's very Important for African-AMerican Story's to be told&seen Uncut the way Spike does.he gives back&helps bring in New Blood. He stays Loyal.he is Challenging&makes you ask Questions.A Brother with a Purpose who continues to make a Difference.

This book has plenty of fast-paced action, but it's just your standard Hardy Boys book, there's a murder and the Hardys are gonna find out who did it.

The best Hardy boys book ever!
This book is a fast paced thrill ride through drugs, sport and money. Frank and Joe try to relax at a beach complex and take in some volleyball but when one of the players die frank and joe must investigate. It's the game of there life..and the competition is murder.

Symbolic C++: An Introduction to Computer Algebra Using Object-Oriented Programming
Published in Paperback by Springer Verlag (April, 2000)
Authors: Tan Kiat Shi, Willi-Hans Steeb, Yorick Hardy, and Kiat Shi Tan
Average review score:

Eclectic but rich
A mixture of C++, group theory, and mathematical physics. Far from a polished treatment, but maybe worth perusing if these are topics of interest to you.

a great object-oriented application
You will find this book fascinating if you are a computer science student intrigued by symbolic calculation systems such as Mathematica and Maple, and if you would like to see how such systems would be implemented in C++ (Mathematica and Maple are actually implemented in plain old C).

The C++ level required is just after CS2, the second C++ class that comprises data structures. If I were a CS2 instructor, I guess I would require students to read some parts of this book since it is a great means of reinforcing about all the concepts learned in C++, while building a nontrivial application; although some examples are taken from physics, physics knowledge is by no means required and the general math level called for reading this book remains comfortably low, and one can always skip the things one does not know or does not care about (such as quaternions, but hey, some people might be turned on by that stuff...).

It shows how to build classes that actually perform calculations using integers of arbitrary length, rational numbers of the a/b form, vectors, matrices, quaternions, symbolic variables, differentiation, integration, etc.

The system described in the book, SymbolicC++, can be used as a FREE alternative to Mathematica or Maple, less of course the graphing capabilities these great software products offer (less also zillions of functions available). SymbolicC++ may nevertheless be connected to Gnuplot to produce graphs. SymbolicC++ may also be of interest to the professional developer having to struggle with complex calculations, since its classes can be included in any C++ environment.

So in short, this book is great if you have the right background and the right interests.

I should also point out that Dr Steeb has written another great book that shows the system at work in problems from the physical sciences and finance ("The Nonlinear Workbook")

Tagged for Terror (The Hardy Boys Casefiles, No 76)
Published in Paperback by Simon Pulse (June, 1993)
Authors: Franklin W. Dixon and Anne Greenberg

Suspensful
The best thing about this book is that it has no ending! Just when you think things are over for Frank and Joe, the story takes a complete turn and you realize that this book has no ending. It is the first in the Ring of Evil series, so it is definetly a mus read. This series is great for anyone, not just young boys. I'm a 16 year old girl and have been reading these for many years. They're terrific!

A great book with the famous teenage duo
This book is great! I just read it a while ago and loved it. It was so good I read it in one night! Although it is a trilogy and does not totally finish it does solve the main crime in the book. It ends up trying to... better not tell you you aughta read it your self

Learn about BBS's in this Hardy Boys mystery!
I think that kids would enjoy this book - they would learn what computers were like before mice. Plus there's a mystery too.

A good Hardy Boys mystery.
The Hardys race against time to save one of Franks friend who was given a life ending poison. Can they find the antidote, and the bad guys, in time? This is a good Hardy Boys book.
